The Ministry Gleanings For The Hungry is a mercy ministry of Youth With A Mission. YWAM is an international movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to presenting Jesus Christ personally to this generation, to mobilizing as many as possible to help in this task, and to the training and equipping of believers for their part in fulfilling the Great Commission. As Christians of God’s Kingdom, we are called to love, worship, and obey the Lord, to love and serve His Body, the Church, and to present the whole Gospel for the whole man throughout the whole world. Gleanings For The Hungry is a unique ministry with YWAM, in that we have a product. At Gleanings we run a seasonal operation where we dry peaches and nectarines 12 weeks in the summer. We have 80 -100 youth a week who come and help on the production line and the drying of the fruit. All products are donated from growers and packing houses.

What does Gleanings do? The ministry processes nectarines and peaches, sun drying them to preserve the fruit. In addition, they produce a very nutritious dried soup mix by blending vegetables, spices, a soy protein, and packaging it in quart or gallon bags. Other nutritious shelf-stable food products are donated by many generous companies which allows us to provide for many more of "the least of these our brothers."

Accommodations We have an 8-room housing unit that is used year round here on the base and dorm rooms that are used mostly in the summer months. October to May is a favorite time to serve for mature adults and home school groups. During this time we can house up to 35 mission builders. There are also 9 RV spots for those who choose to bring their own housing. Six of the RV spots have full hook ups, while 3 spots have water and power. If you don’t have an RV the 8-Plex is where you would be housed if you came for an extended stay in the fall/winter months. The dorms are used to house youth groups during the fruit season. During this season we can house up to 100 youth in 5 dorms. We also have cooks here who provide three meals a day and two snacks. All this and more can be yours for a small donation.
Costs
During the summer fruit season the cost is $85.00 per person. During the non summer season a donation is suggested to help with expenses.
We have morning worship and prayer – and what a way to get your day started! All the volunteers comment on how wonderful the worship times are and how beneficial the worship is to their spiritual being. This is followed by distribution of the day's tasks to the mission builders.

**New RV Sites**
There are 9 sites with 30 amps, water and sewer and 5 sites with 50 amps, water and sewer. The maximum length is 40 feet,.

Volunteer Opportunities Volunteer help would be greatly appreciated in the following areas:
- Food services
- Media arts
- Construction
- Vegetable blending plant supervisor
- Maintenance

A key factor for the fruit season is to have enough strong trays for drying our fruit. During the processing time older trays can break.
Ongoing Projects Located in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley, Gleanings For The Hungry processes donated peaches and nectarines that are sun dried to preserve the fruit. Since 1982 we have been providing dried fruit for the needy around the world in over 75 countries. Our Summer fruit season begins the second week of June through the first week of September. During this time 80-100 youth from churches, home school groups and Christian schools all over the United States and Canada volunteer for a week to help process the fruit. In 2008 we processed over 7 million pounds of fresh fruit which translated into 612,000 pounds of dried fruit that was sent to starving nations of the world.
Each Winter Mission Builders come to our vegetable soup plant to mix dehydrated vegetables that are donated in bulk and mixed together to make a very nutritious soup mix. The soup is packaged in quart and gallon plastic bags which are then packed in barrels or boxes and sent world wide to those countries that don’t have government programs to help the poor and needy. Missionary organizations use the soup to reach families, in feeding programs, schools and orphanages.
Construction, maintenance of equipment and housing are ongoing projects as well as fruit tray repair, concrete work, electrical, housekeeping, kitchen duty, landscaping and more! We are constantly maintaining, improving and expanding our operation. Come join us as we all work together to serve our Lord!
